3 min read What happens when you reduce work injuries? You protect your employees and your bottom line.
Your business success depends on the wellbeing of your workforce. That means promoting and maintaining a safe workforce is not only required by law in most cases, “safety matters” also makes sense for your bottom line. According to the National Safety Council, studies show for every $1 that an employer invests in safety, a $3 to $6 return on investment is realized. That’s a pretty big return and a big reason you should look at making sure your work environment meets safety standards today.
The first thing Corkill’s safety consulting team will do for your business is to conduct a safety audit. This lets us see areas that you are currently doing things well in as well as areas that have room for improvement. Our goal is to make your workplace safe, not just OSHA compliant.
With the help of your team, Corkill will assist you in conducting a complete accident incident investigation. This helps us identify the cause of the accident and put a detailed plan in place to keep it from happening again
We’ll help you identify the specific safety training your company needs and schedule training that fulfills all OSHA requirements. We provide safety training on the following topics:
October National Safety Council Just Drive National Distracted Driving Enforcement Mobilization
U Drive - U Text - U Pay is a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign centered on aiding law enforcement officers in their efforts to keep distracted drivers off the road. Distracted driving is a first offense in many states and continues to gain recognition across the nation as a deadly problem. Drivers in ILLINOIS face harsh penalties for distracted driving. As of July 1, 2019, warnings are no longer given, and drivers are issued a MOVING VIOLATION. Fines start at $75 for a first offense and escalate by $25 to a maximum of $150. Rack up three offenses during a 365 day period, and your license will be SUSPENDED.
According to NHTSA, in 2018 alone 2,841 people were killed and >400,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving a distracted driver. From 2012-2018, ~23,000 people died in crashes involving a distracted driver. Texting while driving is especially dangerous because it combines three types of distraction--visual, manual and cognitive.
Per the NHTSA when you text, you take your eyes off the road for ~five seconds and, at 55 mph, you have covered the length a football field!
NHTSA’s U Drive - U Text - U Pay campaign is centered on the idea that "If you're texting, you're not driving." Its goal is to help drivers understand that texting, cell phone use, and other distractions behind the wheel can have dangerous consequences.
How many times in the last week did you use your cell phone, eat a snack, change the radio station, or do any other task while you were driving? For most of us, driving isn’t our only focus when we’re behind the wheel. Unfortunately, these distractions are leading to fatalities that could otherwise be avoided.
It is a myth that humans can "multitask," or deal with more than one thing at the same time. What really happens when a person thinks he/she is "multitasking" is that the brain toggles back and forth between tasks. Just listening to a cell phone while driving is a significant distraction and causes drivers to commit some of the same types of driving errors that occur under the influence of alcohol!
